My Sister

So, I don't really have much time for a new post this week, so I'll share my microfiction assigment for creative writing class. For those of you that know me, pretend you don't when you're reading this story. Pretend you don't know who my sister is, or how old she is. That way the story will make more sense.

My Sister

My sister is the most intelligent person I know. She hasn’t had much education, but she can be or do anything she sets her mind to. A librarian, veterinarian, teacher, artist, guitarist, doctor, lawyer, florist, a weather woman… She even once wanted to be in a mariachi band!

Even with all the career aspiration she has, she still has time to make it home for dinner. She really does continue to amaze me; it is not just her employment paths that put me in awe, but also the incredible adventures she takes. Just last week she traveled to Africa, this week she traveled to New York to catch a Broadway show. I wish I were able to visit all the amazing place she goes to, to be able to understand the way she thinks. But I’m afraid I’d tie her down, tie her down like a rock weighs down a balloon. Making her unable to soar to the heights I know with her ambition, she is more that capable of reaching. Therefore, I’ll just keep my distance; I’ll watch her fly higher than the clouds, over every obstacle that tries to get in her way.

However, that’s a long ways from now. For new I’ll watch her play safari in the backyard, dress up like she’s going to play theatre, play guitar and tell her she sounds “nice”, and watch her wrap bandages all over our puppy. Later, at night, when she asks to hear a bedtime story, I’ll tell her the story of “The girl who could do anything she set her mind to”.

Disrespect.

I'm not a perfect human being, no one is. My view on life is to treat others the way you want to be treated. Now, do I always follow that rule? No. I'd like to say I do, but I don't. Sometimes out of anger or just plain ignorance I can be disrespectful, rude, and not treat some fairly. But I'd like to think that something like that doesn't happen to often and can be fixed once I realize I made a mistake.

Now, you're probably wondering what my point is with this? I'll get to that. If you are someone who talks to me just about everyday, you normally hear me complain and rant on about how much I hate riding the bus to & from school. But in reality it really isn't all too terrible (though, I strongly believe there are more dignified methods of transportation..). I'll smile and talk with whoever wants to talk with me, and when I'm not speaking to anyone I'll normally just sit there and mind my own business, put in some headphones and zone out.

Well today was one of those days where I decided to listen to my music and just mind my own business. When two disrespectful girls in front of me decided to say some things they thought I wouldn't be listening to. Only did they not know that my headphones were turned down extremely low and I could every little thing they had said.

"The highlights in her hair are growing out, I bet she can't afford to get new ones."
"Yeah, probably not, I've seen that dinky little house she gets dropped off at everyday."
"Well it least it looks like she's gotten enough to eat."
  "HEY! That was mean! Hahaha"
"It can't be too mean since I made you laugh!"
"I don't know what gives her the right to sit on our seat.. Nobody's sitting with her anyways, I wonder if she even has friends"

Want to know why they had such nice things to say about me? The bus driver told me I could sit in their seat because I'm in high school and they need to sit further up because they are in middle school. He assigned me that seat, he told me to sit there. Do their words bother me? No. The fact that they didn't even have the decency to say it when I wasn't around, that's what bothers me. The fact that a person can run their mouth about someone they don't even know, bothers me. Ladies, you can have your seat.

Valentine's day.

Since Valentine's day will be around the corner soon, I thought I would talk about the people who are most important in my life, the people who are there for me even when the road gets a little bumpy... (like my metaphor?)

My family; yeah they constantly get on my nerves, but ya know, I wouldn't want it any other way. I know that one day if no one's gonna be there for me these people will be there no matter what. Mom, Dad, Kayla, I love you guys. I may not say it as much as you like, but you know I do.

Grandma & Papa, Ever since I moved away I miss them like crazy. Truth be told I'm a Grandma's girl. I used to go over to their house and visit almost every weekend. You're never "too cool" to hang out with your grandparents. Grandma and Papa, I miss you and love you very much.

I didn't think moving to West Virginia would have it's advantages. Then I met Joseph. He's kind, funny, sweet, and we have a lot in common. We both moved here pretty much at the same time. I can be silly around him without the worry that he's gonna make fun of me. I can be myself without the fear he'll judge me. Joseph, I'm so glad I met you. Also I'm more than happy that you'll be my Valentine this year.
Cheyenne and Ashley, gosh I miss you two. I'm sorry we don't talk as much since I moved away. Remember how we used to go to walmart, and just walk around doing nothing; and I still had fun with you two! I love you miss you guys soooo much!
Now, this isn't everyone I love and care about, but these are the people that have made the biggest impact on my life so far. I may not tell you all that, and I'm sorry. But know that's how I feel, and you all have made me the person that I am today.

I like going to the Dollar Tree because I don't have to get dressed up like I'm going to Wal-Mart!

I swear I've heard someone say that before... But a topic like this really makes me laugh because who the heck does dress up to even go to Walmart? Once, before prom last year, my friends & I got stuck following my mom into Walmart so she could get batteries for her camera. The guys in their tux's, and the girls in their dresses, and MY MOM made us go in with her. We got stared at like we were on fire. Nobody fricken dresses up to go to walmart, that's a sweatpants and slippers place fool!

Nuff said.
